Street Art

I got lost the other day and found this cool mural. There is some awesome street art around, you just have to look. Or get lost like me and you might randomly find yourself in front of art. Enjoy!

There are also many rebellious and political charged messages within street art. To the left is Che Guevara, a symbol of rebellion(more about Guevara here). He is often coupled with the message: "Unite a la juventud guevarista Santa Rosa".  It roughly translates as: "Unite the youth Guevara". Basically, it a call for young revolutionaries to unite and rebel.

Similarly, the second message addresses feminism and reads: "Women: resist and fight". Gender roles are stricter in Argentina than in the United States. Also, an overwhelming majority of jobs are held by men, and there is job discrimination based on gender. However, women are currently breaking through these gender barriers with what I would willingly call a feminist movement.

The next message is interesting. It is a play on words. If you know Spanish, keep in mind that the verb joder has an entirely different meaning in Argentina... On one side, "no se jode" can be a vulgar expression of extreme disagreement. However, if it is said differently it can also mean 'This is amazing!'. The one example I can think of in English is 'You're sick!'. It is not meant literally but rather taken as either 'you're awesome' or 'you're sick minded'. The irony is that you don't know which the artist meant.
